Since 1996 the Regional Office, located in Hanoi, is supporting local partner organizations in Vietnam and Laos to overcome poverty and strive for an inclusive socio-economic development. Main areas of work are: Sustainable economic development in rural areas, climate change and renewable energy, gender equality and social inclusion, access to basic services.

The regional office supports more than 40 NGOs and mass organizations in the region. Its guiding principles are social justice, ecological responsibility, inclusive socio-economic development, and partner orientation.

Objective of the Advisor on Climate Change and Social Media (ACCSM)

The Regional Office for Vietnam and Laos (VEST) is looking for an ACCSM for its climate change programme and social media channels.  The advisor will A) continue with VEST’s efforts on climate change and its support to Partner Organizations (POs) on climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts; and ii) will increase VEST’s online presence by planning, developing and creating a social media strategy, providing monthly newsfeed and quarterly newsletters, as well as creating content for VEST’s website.

Your tasks

1.     As an Advisor on Climate Change your tasks will involve:

  • Preparation and facilitation of VEST events on the climate change and environmental protection such as exhibitions or forums.
  • Conducting meetings and facilitating workshops with VEST POs for training and awareness raising about climate change, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and climate risks.
  • Developing climate-change related good practices together with the VEST and VEST POs.
  • Providing reports/informational documents for VEST and VEST’s POs on climate change and good practices in both Vietnam and Laos.

2.     As an Advisor on Social Media your tasks will encompass:

  • Ensuring wide dissemination of the organization’s activities by following a social media strategy. This will include, most prominently:
    • Planning and developing various projects in online marketing efforts of VEST team and VEST POs in Vietnam and Laos including media coverage and press releases.
    • Interacting with the team of VEST and VEST POs to collect stories, pictures, and other relevant material for the social media accounts.
    • Maintaining an online presence through regular posts as well as engaging with followers on e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
    • Creating social media content (text, image & video) including but not limited to climate change, agroecology, gender, LGBTQ+, community management, among others.
  • Conducting VEST database and media documentation.
  • Developing content for BftW/sub VEST’s website on a periodic basis.

Applicant profile

  • At least 2 years of work experience in Vietnam or Southeast Asia particularly within the areas of climate change, sustainability, circular economy, renewable energy, agroecology, gender, LGBTQ+, or community empowerment.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in climate change, natural resource management, environmental, or in relevant fields.
  • Previous experience in working independently within planning, quality assurance, and usage of IoT – principally social media channels.
  • Required high familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Previous experience with organizing events or workshops is required.
  • Experience with account management is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in or with start-ups or multilateral organisations (i.e., World Bank, United Nations, Chambers of Commerce, etc.) is an asset.
  • Fluency in English (C1-C2) is required. Relative fluency in German (B1-C1) and other UN languages is considered an asset.
  • The applicant should reliable and organized, with an interest in development work and willingness to travel within Vietnam and Laos.

Timeframe

The expected timeline for implementation is 13 months from 1st March 2022 to 31st March 2023. An interim review will be conducted at the end of 2022 to inform the continuation of the successful activities for the upcoming year.
