Project Objective

SI is implementing the USAID/Vietnam Learns Contract. The scope of the five-year project is to support USAID/Vietnam staff and partners to implement more efficient, effective, and transparent programs by improving: (1) USAID and Implementing Partner (IP) capacity to achieve expected results; (2) USAID’s understanding and tracking of project performance; and (3) collaboration, learning, and adapting (CLA).

Position Description

USAID Learns works require user-friendly visualized products such as in the form of PPT presentation, handouts, checklists, flyers, etc. The project wants to strengthen its visual communication capability to effectively transform technical expertise into a neat communication piece.

In this regard, SI and its partner, PEAPROS, are seeking a qualified consultant to provide skills building on visual communication mindset (design/presentation mindset) for non-designer learners with no graphic design foundation. The consultant will be responsible for delivering a series of mini-training sessions on visual communication mindset (design/presentation mindset) for the USAID Learns’ staff. The training will be organized preferably in in-person setting, with possibility for hybrid or virtual setting depending on the COVID-19 situation in Hanoi. The consultant is expected to work closely with USAID Learns Capacity Building team to tailor the content and schedule of the training to USAID Learns’ needs.

Consulting Assignment Objectives

This assignment aims to horn the mindset and the skills of non-designer learners to help them effectively present technical inputs through user-friendly visualization and build user-friendly visual communication products.

After the assignment is completed, learners are able to:

  • Understanding core design principles/ Set up design mindset 
  • Analyze and apply basic design concepts in professional setting, including typography, color theory, image selection, and layout best practices.
  • See the common pitfalls in visualizing ideas and how to solve them
  • Use hand-on non-designer tools: creating icons, illustration, downloadable high-resolution images resources, remove background, etc.
  • Convey ideas to graphic designer professionals.

Responsibilities

The Consultant will be responsible for providing quality instructions and hands-on application to USAID Learns staff on visual communication mindset through well prepared mini-training sessions, relevant practices and assignments to fulfill the above objectives.

The Consultant will lead the complete process, from design training outline to development of detailed content, deliver and facilitate training and assess and review the final output for quality check. The consultant is expected to work closely with Capacity Building team to best tailor the training to USAID Learns’ needs.

Anticipated training schedule: 7 mini-sessions, 1.5hr each (weekly) between March and May 2022.

Language: English and Vietnamese upon final composition of learners.

Expected deliverables:

  • Set of well-organized professionally developed training materials (PPTs, practice assignment, etc.) in English and Vietnamese
  • Successful delivery of all the sessions
  • Documentation of frequently asked questions

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications and competencies in graphic design

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience on delivering graphic design/ presentation trainings
  • Professional experience in Graphic Design and Presentation
  • Experience in delivering training and with different training formats (virtual, in-person, hybrid), including training design, planning, implementation, and assessment;
  • Experience with training for adults and/or learner centered training is an advantage;

Skills:

  • Expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Vietnamese;
  • Knowledge and experience related to USAID funded project is an advantage.
