Overview
The Southeast Asia Farm Animal Fellowship (SEAFAWF) is a project under Effective Altruism Singapore. The project’s aim is to build up a community and network of farmed animal advocates in the region. Through our programmes, we seek to find and empower motivated individuals to engage in a career that can create a more sustainable and humane food system in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore.
The role
Your role is to help build up a community and network of farmed animal advocates in Vietnam through the Southeast Asia Farm Animal Welfare Fellowship programme. As our country manager, you will work closely with the programme directors in establishing a local network. You will be integral in developing a stronger community of farmed animal advocates who are highly motivated individuals interested in addressing the issues surrounding industrial animal agriculture. Through this programme, you will support individuals who are seeking a career to be part of creating a more sustainable and humane food system in Southeast Asia.
Responsibilities
As the country manager, you will be responsible for implementing the fellowship programme successfully in Vietnam. This will include developing and adapting the fellowship to be more locally relevant and working with other experienced advocates in building partnerships and identifying opportunities.
This is a holistic role and you will be involved from the start to the end of the fellowship programme in Vietnam. Some of your key responsibilities are to:
- Advertise the fellowship online to a Vietnamese audience to help recruit fellows.
- Assist the programme directors in interviewing applicants for the fellowship.
- Manage the implementation of the fellowship based on the project timeline.
- Work closely with the directors to review the existing fellowship and adapt the curriculum accordingly to the local context.
- Work with translators to develop the curriculum content in Vietnamese.
- Communicate regularly with the fellows to share updates and announcements.
- Network with other organisations and serve as the team’s Vietnam point of contact, to develop more collaborative relationships within the movement in Vietnam.
- Provide 1-1 support with the fellows of the programme in their career goals, during and after the fellowship.
Stakeholders that you would be interacting and coordinating with in this role includes:
- Fellows - engage extensively with the fellows who are a part of the fellowship.
- Organisations (local/international) - connect with animal advocacy groups working with Vietnam.
- Universities - explore ways to engage with educational institutions for potential recruitment of fellows.
- Translators - work with professional translators for the translation and interpretation of the fellowship content from English to Vietnamese.
- Speakers - liaise and communicate with speakers for the programme, where needed.
Required skills & experience
The qualifications that we are seeking in our team member:
- Cares deeply about farmed animal rights and/or welfare, is familiar with the issues and has an open mind in doing what it takes to have a great impact.
- Excellent in written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficient in Vietnamese and has a deep understanding of the local culture.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications.
- 3+ years experience in the planning and execution of programmes/projects that are ideally similar to this fellowship programme.
- Experience in organising online events (virtually) and comfortable with using Google Workspace (i.e. docs, sheets, slides).
- Proactive, independent and action-oriented; able to work remotely, without supervision.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organisation and planning skills.
- A team player who enjoys coordinating and working with others.
- Have strong interpersonal skills and can build new relationships with fellows and collaborators to grow the network and connections in Vietnam.
