ANNEX A: TERMS OF REFERENCE

Activity name (as stated in the original proposal):

Act. 1.1. Analyze current situation and trends of wildlife/wild meat trade and consumption in Viet Nam

Act 3.1. Annual social media sentiment analysis in China, Indonesia, and Viet Nam relating to wildlife issues

Service (to be performed): Conduct research on provided topics relating to wildlife on online social media

Duration of Service’s performance: March - April 2024

 

I. Background:  

In order to update understanding and knowledge about (i) Current situation and trend of online trade of wildlife, wild meat and consumption in Viet Nam; and (ii) social attitudes on online platforms relating to wildlife issues, especially support of ending the commercial trade in high zoonotic risk wild species for human consumption, WCS Viet Nam program is looking for a social media listening agency to conduct scanning online social media platforms in Viet Nam on wildlife-related topics for the period of Jan. 1, 2020 - Dec. 31, 2022.

II. Objectives:

  • To generate information on the prevalence and nature of trading and consumption of wildlife and wild meat in general and specific for some targeted species on online social media platforms for the period of Jan. 1, 2020 - Dec. 31, 2022
  • To track and analyse public attitudes on wildlife, trade and consumption, and support for ending the commercial trade of high zoonotic risk wild species (wild mammals and birds) for human consumption on online social media platforms in Viet Nam for the period of Jan. 1, 2020 - Dec. 31, 2022.·

1.   Ccollect relevant information by scanning suggested key words on online social media platforms, including but not limited to websites, forums, e-commerce sites, blogs, social media (Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Tik Tok, Zalo, WeChat) in a defined period (Jan. 1, 2020 - Dec. 31, 2022)

Note: The service provider would be required to collect related information in most recent 2-month period (Nov to Dec 2022) to test effectiveness of key words and adjust if needed.

Raw data, including spreadsheets, photos/screenshot, videos…

1st payment: Within 45 days after the activity’s deliverables are approved by WCS

2.   Analyses collected information and develop a report in accordance with abovementioned objectives. The report should include but not limited to below contents:

  • Overview of all mentions/discussions about wildlife on online social media platforms: scale; platform and themes
  • Situation of online wildlife trade on online social media platforms
  • Situation of wildlife consumption mention on online social media platforms
  • Social attitudes on online platforms relating to wildlife

IV. Requirements (selection criteria):

  • Have at least 10 years of experience, and specializes in providing services of social media analytics;
  • Have experience in conducting at least two social media listening researches on the wildlife trade and/or consumption topic;
  • Can access the biggest data of users of common open social media platforms such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, forum/blogs, ecommerce sites, and/or close platforms such as Tik Tok; Zalo (if appropriate)…;
  • Using a strong platform to access and craw real-time data; HASHTAGS tracking; mentions collecting; largest data coverage, historical database, sentiment analysis with AI, similar to “Social Heat”;
  • Can scan by key words and pictures (if appropriate).
