Position: Research Assistant for M&E Country Coordinator (1-year consultant position with possible extension)

Project Summary: Alive & Thrive, a multi-year initiative (2009-2013) aimed at improving the nutritional status of infants and young children, is led by the Academy for Educational Development and in Viet Nam is being implemented through a joint partnership with Save the Children, GMMB, the International Food Policy Research Institute & the University of California, Davis. The initiative will contribute significantly to the Government of Viet Nam’s priorities and accelerate ongoing efforts to reduce stunting. The initiative will also create synergies with other stakeholders such as the Viet Nam Women’s Union, UN agencies, other international and local non-government organizations and the private for-profit sector. While aiming to impact nutritional status in all 63 provinces, more intensive capacity building/provincial planning activities will be undertaken in 15 areas (10 rural provinces and 5 cities).
Position Summary: Provide assistant for M&E Country Coordinator for various research to evaluate A&T activities at all levels. Ensure collection of high quality data and work with team members to develop & disseminate an evidence base for infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices in Viet Nam. Provide support to both field and office work.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide assistant in developing tools to ensure collection of high quality data that tracks progress for all components of A&T activities.
- Conducting literature review in various topics related to IYCF practice
- Create data entry form to enter data if necessary.
- Perform quantitative data analyses under the guidance of evaluation specialist. Interpret the tables or figures created.
- Provide support in the development of high quality, timely reports
- Contribute to development of annual workplans, budgets & reports
- Co-ordinate with other operational functions of A&T such as Program team, Finance team and Administration team.
- Other tasks as assigned by the M&E specialist
Education: Bachelor/ Masters Degree or equivalent in health. Nutrition or related field or sufficient experience statistical skills.
Experience:
- 2-4 years experience in working in the field of public health, preferable having experience with data management and analyses.
- 2-4 years experience in working in Viet Nam
Skills:
- Working knowledge of management information systems and experience with a range of quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques and approaches
- Proficiency with a variety of software applications (e.g. Microsoft excel, Access, etc.) as well data analysis packages (Stata, SPSS, SAS)
- Demonstrated ability to learn new things, and open with new knowledge
- Good in written and spoken English
- Ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with a multi-cultural team
- Ability to think creatively and strategically
