About ENV Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) was established in 2000 as Vietnam’s first non-governmental organization focused on conservation of nature and the environment through education. Our mission is to foster greater understanding amongst the Vietnamese public about environmental issues of local, national and global significance, ranging from protection of wildlife and natural ecosystems to climate change. The government of Spain has financed VND2.328 trillion ($125.9 million) to 22 projects to develop rural infrastructure and production in Vietnam’s northern province of Quang Ninh, the Thoi bao Kinh te newspaper reported Thursday. Ten of these projects will be implemented in Dong Trieu district and the rest in Hai Ha district, the newspaper said, adding that all are slated for completion early next year. With a total investment of VND6 trillion ($324.5 million), these projects aim to supply equipments for local production and help improve rural infrastructure facilities in the two districts.
The People’s Committee of the central Quang Tri province has approved scholarship of VND2.3 billion ($125,000) for students from the Van Kieu and Pa Co ethnic minorities in this school year. The scholarship would be given to students in four districts of Huong Hoa, Da Krong, Gio Linh and Vinh Linh. It intended to encourage students to overcome material difficulties and continue studying further.
The International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) of Sweden has assisted VND11 billion ($615,315) to Vietnam’s central province of Quang Nam to build a 75-kW power plant to bring electricity to Cotu ethnic minority people in the locality. The province will start building the VND15-billion plant within this year, the Thanh Nien newspaper reported. Once fully operational after 11 months of construction, the small plant is expected to generate 16,459 kWh a year, benefiting 277 Cotu households in Ga Ri commune of Tay Giang mountainous district.
