Vietnam, one of the first six Asia-Pacific countries to develop and implement a National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), has approved the 2024-2025 phase of its strategy, local media reported.
The plan, signed by Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan under the health ministry’s Decision 3465, aims to curb AMR progression, control the spread of resistant microorganisms, and ensure the availability and proper use of antimicrobials to safeguard human, animal, and environmental health while supporting socio-economic development.
Key objectives include raising public and professional awareness, with all provinces adopting funded AMR plans and improving knowledge levels among healthcare workers and the public.
Strengthening surveillance systems is another priority, with 50% of Ministry of Health hospitals and at least one per province involved in AMR monitoring, enhanced laboratory capacities, and comprehensive staff training.
The plan also targets reducing infections by encouraging hospitals to set AMR control targets, implement microbiological diagnostics, and conduct active surveillance. (Suc Khoe Doi Song, Tin Tuc, Hanoi Moi)
