Dear Sir/ Madam,

Within the framework of the Vietnam Economist Annual Meeting 2022 (agenda
attached), the GIZ implemented IKI project- *Policy Advice for Climate
Resilient Economic Development (CRED) project* will organize a session on
the application of macroeconomic models to quantify the impacts of climate
change on the economies. Germany and Vietnam will be treated as case
studies for the integration of such model into adaptation planning
processes.

With long coastal lines, Vietnam is one of the most susceptible countries
to climate change impacts. Climate change has caused various effects,
affecting economic activity and slowing down Vietnam's growth. Without
proper adaptation and mitigation measures, it is estimated that climate
change will cost Vietnam about 5-10% of GDP a year by 2050 (GIZ, 2022 and
World Bank, 2022).

The session will also present insights into assessing economic implications
of the coal phase out in Germany as well as looking into financing
strategies for enabling investments for the needed transition. Lessons
learnt from the German case study will be compared with Vietnam’s.
Considering the updated commitments and implementations from COP27 and
projection results from economic-climate change models, implications for
climate change mitigation and adaptation policies shall be drawn for
Vietnam.

You’re cordially invited to the *GIZ’s session at 15:00-17:15 VT time on
November 24, 2022*. The onsite venue is Room 201, building D, Foreign Trade
University (91 Chùa Láng, Láng Thượng, Đống Đa, Hà Nội).
