HCM City Boosts Partnership with Foreign NGOs

A partnership between HCM City and foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has been expanded across many fields, including community development, health care, education and social issues, according to the HCM City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO).

HUFO and the city's working group for foreign NGOs have co-organized an annual conference with foreign NGOs to discuss co-operation for the coming time.

Do Viet Ha, president of HUFO, said the conference offered a platform for foreign NGOs and Vietnamese partners to discuss co-operation, difficulties and challenges, along with the city’s aid mobilization demand.

Romanian Government Grants 21 Scholarships to Vietnamese Citizens

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has announced that the Romanian Government will grant 21 scholarships to Vietnamese citizens in 2024 to study in the European country.

Accordingly, 20 scholarships for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral studies will be offered besides one internship and research scholarship.

Successful candidates will enjoy free tuition and accommodation, along with medical support and a monthly allowance as per the Romanian government's regulations.

Vietnam Receives 1M Blood Units Annually since 2014

Since 2014, Vietnam has received over one million blood units annually, said Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ha Thanh, director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

The official made the announcement at the National Blood Transfusion Conference 2024 organized by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi on April 11.

He emphasized that despite there being 77 blood reception centers nationwide, 91% of the received blood is centralized at 23 hospitals/blood centers.

Vietnam to Provide Free Rotavirus Vaccine to Children from 2024: Official

Children in Vietnam are set to receive free vaccination against Rotavirus, a leading cause of diarrhea, from 2024, making it the 11th vaccine to be introduced in the country’s expanded immunization program, said Associate Professor Dr. Duong Thi Hong, deputy director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

The Rotavirus vaccine will be implemented initially in 33 provinces and municipalities, Dr. Hong noted, adding that the program aims to expand its coverage nationwide to ensure that all children under one year old receive the vaccine by 2025.

Vietnam Launches First International Trauma Life Support Training Center

Vietnam launched International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Training Center at Military Hospital 175, operated under the Ministry of National Defense, in Hanoi on April 15, marking the first facility in Vietnam and the fifth of its kind in Southeast Asia, local media reported.

Vietnam Needs $20B-$30B Investment for Universal Clean Water Access

Vietnam will need to invest $20 billion-$30 billion on water supply and drainage to make sure that 100% of the population has access to clean water, according to experts.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment forecasts that water use demand by 2030 is about 122.47 billion cubic meter per year.

Urban development, discharge of untreated industrial wastewater, and use of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture, are putting great pressure on river basins, affecting clean water sources. This is particularly the case for large cities where clean water sources are a concern.

Vietnam Quang Binh Initiates Communication Campaign on Wildlife Conservation

Vietnam’s central Quang Binh province launched a communication campaign to call for wildlife conservation efforts on April 13, in response to the World Wildlife Day and the National Biodiversity Restoration Year 2024, local media reported.

The campaign, within the framework of the Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation Project (VFBC) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to raise public awareness about wildlife conservation and reduce demand for wildlife products.

Experts Suggest Solutions for Vietnam to Tackle Electronic Waste Problem

Experts have made some suggestions for Vietnam to solve the growing problem of electronic waste, local media reported.

Deputy Director of the Center of Science-Technology and Environment Nguyen Duc Quang proposed encouraging the establishment of private collection systems and developing standardized dismantling and sorting facilities for electronic waste.

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Dung from the Vietnam Waste Recycling Association recommended Vietnam establish modern, large-scale electronic waste recycling plants capable of recovering precious metals. Additionally, upgrading informal recycling to controlled collection and sorting is essential.

Vietnam Works to Prevent Biodiversity Degradation

Vietnam is recognized as one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world with different ecosystems including tropical forests, marine and coastal ecosystems. However, experts from the World Wide Fund for Nature in Vietnam said that Vietnam's biodiversity is degrading.

To reduce biodiversity loss, Vietnamese Government promulgated the National Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, which aims to increase the acreage of protected ecosystems and promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

MegaEdu, iSMART, and AI Education, the official representatives of Google for Education in Vietnam, have recently signed a strategic partnership to implement the "Google Classroom" solution that provides both equipment and a support platform for teaching and learning, along with a rich digital learning library.

This smart classroom model is part of the education sector's overall digital transformation program aimed at enhancing teacher capacity and training quality in Ho Chi Minh City. Proposed by the HCMC Department of Education and Training and implemented since 2023, the program is expected to be gradually expanded each year.
