Vietnam has reached lower Middle Income Country status, but more than 33 million people still live on less than two dollars a day. Many of them live in rural and remote communities with few services and limited livelihood options. It is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world1 with around 70 per cent of its population at risk of typhoons, torrential storms and flooding. Furthermore, the communities settled along the Mekong Delta a low-lying coastal region, are at greater risk of natural disasters. The Mekong Delta has been identified as one of the global hot spots for climate change.

Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) was established in 2000 as Vietnam’s first non-governmental organization focused on conservation of nature and the environment through education. Our mission is to foster greater understanding amongst the Vietnamese public about environmental issues of local, national and global significance, ranging from protection of wildlife

CARE International in Vietnam is a Non-Government Organization representing the CARE International network in Vietnam since 1989. CARE in Vietnam’s Program Strategy is explicitly oriented around achieving impacts for particularly vulnerable and marginalised groups in Vietnam. To achieve this, we work with Vietnamese partners across sectors such as health services, rural livelihood development, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. We recognise that women’s empowerment is a critical pathway for poverty reduction and place women and girls from marginalised population groups at the heart of our programming efforts.
