Workshop: Developing Climate Solutions, Entrepreneurial Approaches to Addressing Climate Challenges and Opportunities
Date: 22 – 26 November 2010
Place: V-Resort, Hoa Binh, Vietnam

Climate security is one of the main challenges of 21st century. The subject has been rapidly moving up the political and economic agendas over recent years. Responding to this challenge, the British Council has established Climate Generation, a climate initiative in the East Asia region which aims to build a sustainable network of “emerging leaders” who are committed to taking action in limiting the contribution they and society make to greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate Change and Urban Development

Climate change will have far-reaching effects on our cities and will present politics and society with new challenges. A conference entitled “Climate Change and Sustainable Urban Development” will be held from 14-15 September 2010 at the Goethe Institut Hanoi as part of ‘Germany in Vietnam 2010’ activities. Vietnamese and German experts and decision makers from various fields will discuss the effects of climate change and possible approaches to seek solutions for urban development. Examples of housing construction and traffic planning from German cities will be presented, in order to generate suggestions for the challenges facing Vietnamese metropolitan areas. The University of Hamburg and the Ministry of Construction are cooperation partners for the conference.

Workshop on New Disability Law

On September 15, The World Bank will host a workshop on implementation issues for Vietnam's new Law on Disability Rights. Vietnam has shown a commitment to making development more inclusive, first as an early signatory to the UN's Convention on Rights of Disabled Persons, and then with passage this year of landmark legislation that makes commitment to remove the barriers to participation in society that many disabled people face. We hope that this event will serve as a springboard for finding ways to work together so that all citizens of Vietnam can share in the country's development.
