The German Red Cross is part of the world wide Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement assisting victims of conflict and disaster and people affected by social or health related crisis. The Red Cross movement provides to vulnerable people assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions and adheres to the seven principles of the Red Cross movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The Mekong Delta Region Urban Upgrading Project (MDRUUP) started on May 2013, covers six cities of Can Tho, My Tho, Cao Lanh, Ca Mau, Rach Gia and Tra Vinh. The project’s objective is to improve infrastructure services in Low Income Areas in the six project cities in the Mekong Delta Region. There is an additional technical assistance component in the project to support the Ministry of Construction (MOC) for project coordination and implementation.

Viet Nam has received GFATM funding through Rounds 1, 3, 6, 8 and 9 of which the HIV/AIDS project Round 9 is the first time ever that involves participation from civil society organizations (CSO). This CSO component project proposal is entitled “Government – Civil Society partnership in responding to HIV epidemic in Viet Nam and moving towards Universal Access and sustainable National AIDS program” and is being led by the Viet Nam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA).
